Double Brutal

As I Lay Dying's Tim Lambesis has returned with BFF Arnold and together as Austrian Death Machine have release their sophomore album, Double Brutal, which is twice as brutal as their first, obviously. This double-disc release plays on the AILD-ish style of metalcore with an Austrian weightlifting, '80s action star's influence. Where the first album was pretty much an AILD musical rip-off, Double Brutal actually goes beyond that by offering a little more thrash. "Come on, Do It, Do It, Come On, Come On, Kill Me, Do It Now" (from Predator) and "Let Off Some Steam, Bennett" (from Commando) are perfect examples of ADM trying to break their mould and offer some musical variation. However, stagnant metalcore moments are still in command of this record. Double Brutal features a lot of covers: Motörhead, Iron Maiden and Metallica, while their cover of "Tactically Dangerous — Cannibal Commando" (Goretorture) is a deadly death metal piece of brutality. Regarding the Arnold gimmick, there are times when it's pretty funny, like when the two Arnolds meet on the phone and yell testosterone-fuelled gibberish at one another, but it's annoying that they constantly play on his inability to speak clearly. This is the type of release that fans will dig because it's a double disc release, meaning you get more brutality for your buck. Whereas the rest of the world will get its fix watching Commando.
