Do Good Beats Make Great Rap?
By Luke Fox

Who better to find the next Eminem than the team who first gave light to the original? Radio hosts Sway and King Tech, whose hip-hop Wake Up Show is legendary for bringing lyrically endowed underground MCs to the mainstream, have taken their search for fresh stars online with the 100K Battle. Hopefuls log on to urSession.com to score exclusive beats from Pete Rock, 9th Wonder, the late J Dilla and others. Fans can also vote for the best MC, who will win $5,000, a trip to L.A. to appear on the show, and the chance to become urSession’s flagship artist this August. “I was getting tired of hearing rappers over horrible beats,” Tech explains. “I got connections with all the labels, and I want to get involved with getting that kid’s demo to all the various labels.” Read more from Sway and Tech at exclaim.ca.

Although he's a Montreal native, this debut album sparkles with many of the magical elements associated with Vollebekk's Scandinavian heritage. Don't count on Norway's premier disco revivalist Hans-Peter Lindstrøm to ever turn in the same record twice. "All the artists and bands that I really like do surprising stuff every time, and I guess I just copy their way," he says from his Oslo home studio. "But it's also about not getting bored myself."...
