The Sadies Prep New Full-Length, Plus Collaborative Projects with Andre Williams, Garth Hudson and Sex Pistol Glen Matlock

Not surprisingly, one of the hardest working bands in show business, the Sadies, have a slew of projects and collaborations on the horizon. The group’s Dallas and Travis Good have revealed to Exclaim! that the next album by the band will be out sometime in the middle of May. Produced by Gary Louris of the Jayhawks, the currently untitled release was realized at Blue Rodeo's Woodshed Studio in Toronto, ON and the Tragically Hip's Bathouse Studio in Kingston, ON.
The Toronto quartet have also divulged that a full-blown collaboration is underway between the Sadies and Hip front-man Gordon Downie (who's also rumoured to have a new solo record in the can with his all-star Country of Miracles band). Although they'd surely crossed paths before, it's likely that the seeds for this project were sown when the two entities teamed up for a taping of the now-defunct CBC Radio One show Fuse, in November 2007. Back then, sparks flew, but how about now?
"So far, we just come down here and stare at each other until one of us has an idea," Travis Good laughs in an Exclaim! interview at the Woodshed.
On top of these projects, the long-rumoured new album by Andre Williams and the Sadies should be out in the near future, the band say. Recording wrapped on it a year ago and the record features guest spots from Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray of Heavy Trash, Sally Timms of the Mekons and Danny Doll Rod of the Demolition Doll Rods, among others.
The Sadies also appear with the likes of Nick Cave and Debbie Harry on the new tribute comp, We Are Only Riders: Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project, and were recruited by Band keyboard/organ player Garth Hudson to record a song by his former group for a yet-TBA project with unnamed rock'n'roll superstar. The Sadies are backing up Sex Pistol Glen Matlock as well for some shows in small Canadian towns in the next few days, which is kind of WTF?, if you ask us.
When pressed to name anyone else they'd like to work with, however, super-collaborators Travis and Dallas Good are somewhat sheepish.
"Neil Young, because I like his guitar tone," Travis says finally, with Dallas adding, "Rick White, at this point; where the fuck is he? Ray Davies would be good. He asked us from a festival stage if we'd be available for something in the future. Whether it was talk or not, it's my kinda talk! And Roky Erickson. But it's never a process of 'Let's try to work with him.' It's more from a circle of friends and more organic."
