Fucked Up’s Star-Loaded Christmas Single, Ian Brown’s Arrest and Fiery Furnaces’ Radiohead Diss Lead This Week’s News Round-Up
11/7/2009 By Brock Thiessen

With the weekend here that can only mean one thing in Exclaim! land: another edition of News Round-Up, our guide to the week’s top stories. As always, there’s a lot to be had, and a mix of good, bad and even ugly.

As for the good, this week we found out M.I.A. is fast at work on her Kala follow-up — a record Diplo says will sound like “Gucci Mane Meets Animal’ — and that a new album is in the works from the Warp Records-signed Born Ruffians, who gave us the exclusive scoop. Also, Fucked Up shared their plans to record “Do They Know It's Christmas?” and will be doing it with such bands as Broken Social Scene, Vampire Weekend, No Age, GZA and maybe even a Jonas Brother.

For the bad, Slayer postponed their anticipated Canadian Carnage tour, Toronto’s Hostage Life broke up, Smugglers founder Paul Preminger passed away and Ian Brown was arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife.

And that ugly? Well, the Fiery Furnaces’ Matthew Friedberger gave Radiohead the ol’ “fuck you” and then made sure we all knew he meant it. And just to add one more contradiction to their career, U2 celebrated the fall of the Berlin Wall by building one of their own.

Given that the Strokes haven't released a record in almost four years, Julian Casablancas's debut as a solo artist is oddly timed. Band-mates Albert Hammond Jr., Nikolai Fraiture and Fabrizio Moretti have all struck out on their own during the group's hiatus (twice, in Hammond's case) and word is th... Full Review
Exclaim! celebrates our 200th issue ever with this retrospective of the best Questionnaire answers in our history, which in this case is technically only 113 issues. (This feature debuted, with Buck 65, in September 1999.) It was called 20 Questions then and we'd do two at a time, head-to-head. We've changed interrogative tack a few times, but the heart remains the same. See you again for #300, in February 2019.... Read More
Since meeting Pharrell Williams and teaming with the Neptunes in 1993, Virginia hip-hop duo the Clipse ― comprised of brothers Pusha T and Malice ― has earned a respectable place in hip-hop. While their first album, 1999's Exclusive Audio Footage, failed to generate much interest, 2001's Lord Willin' entered the Billboard 200 chart at #4, off the strength off the instant-classic "Grindin'."...
