Shout Out Louds to Return in 2010 with Work
10/28/2009 By Alex Hudson

If you’ve been eagerly awaiting the follow-up to 2007’s stellar Our Ill Will, good news: Swedish popsters Shout Out Louds have announced they’re coming back with their third album, Work.

The album is due out February 23 via Merge Records and was recorded with acclaimed producer Phil Ek (the Shins, Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses). According to a message on the group's website, the majority of the album was laid down this summer "in a ghost-ridden barn called Bear Creek Studio, in a truck-riddled small town called Woodinville, outside the salty city of Seattle in the ever so green state of Washington." Ek then travelled with the band to their home city of Stockholm to wrap up the recordings.

Of their choice of album title, singer Adam Olenius offered this explanation: "I am fascinated by the process of creating something and almost working yourself to death, the relief that comes when it is over and the ability to just shut off a part of one’s life. Work also means that something 'does work,' to reach a goal. A song from John Cale and Lou Reed’s Songs For Drella also inspired our album title choice."

Although Shout Out Louds have yet to release a single from Work, the band assure fans, "It’s the best thing we have ever made. On our mothers’ graves." A brief clip of the recording sessions can be viewed below.

On the eve of Remembrance Day ― less than a week after a Muslim-American army major massacred 13 fellow soldiers in Fort Hood rather than deploy to Afghanistan ― gamers stormed midnight sales to spend a world record-smashing $310 million on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a game that begins in that very same central Asian warzone and, infamously, permits players to gun innocent people down in a terror attack....
