Give Thanks with New Tracks by Sufjan Stevens, Built to Spill, Mocky and GZA, and More in Click Hear
10/12/2009 By Emily Robinson

Oh, yes, Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. While you’re rolling around with your belly full of turkey, you can still back, relax and calm any indigestion with some great tracks in our Click Hear section.

We’re starting off with Mocky featuring GZA and their track “Birds of a Feather.” GZA has recently been taking the indie rock scene by storm as of late, and it’s no surprise he’s recorded with Mocky, who turned this track into a shuffling, summery jam.

Morphy isn’t about bass wobbles, but he explores traditional dub hallmarks for a release of non-stop tension, Dubtopia. The Glasgow native's latest EP straddles double time, half time and gut wrenching bass.

Sufjan Stevens calls us over with “Movement VI – Isorhythmic Night Dance with Interchanges,” which we’re saying is one of Sufjan’s “most glorious accomplishments,” even if it’s inspired by the hideousness that is the Brooklyn Queens Expressway.

Shafiq Husayn gives us “Nirvana” as he continues to push the envelope with Afrobeats, upfront brass, air horns, spiritual chanting, and female vocals, which help to make this funky yet unorthodox stew.

And lastly, we’ve got the new album There is No Enemy from Built to Spill. The first listen reveals an organic-sounding album, though less fierce than previous work back to tight songwriting and guitar fuzz.

"Most people are surprised this is my studio," jokes hip-hop producer Matthew "Boi-1da" Samuels, looking around at an empty basement equipped with a laptop, a mini fridge and an X-Box. A laptop is where Drake's history making single "Best I Ever Had" was created? To say the least, what 1da lacks in a studio ensemble, he makes up for in talent and accessibility.... Read More
