Neil Diamond Covers Adam Sandler’s "Chanukah Song" for Christmas Album
10/1/2009 By Josiah Hughes

As he gets older, beloved crooner Neil Diamond is having more and more fun with his long-running career. A perfect example is his upcoming Christmas album, which, beside being a collection of wintry classics and originals, includes a cover of Adam Sandler’s classic “Chanukah Song.”

Fortunately, the track has leaked to the Internet and can be snatched here or streamed below. The track is a pretty spot-on rendition of Sandler’s classic, though Diamond’s straight-laced singing adds an extra layer of humour. He even opens the track by saying, “There are so many beautiful Christmas songs around and so few Chanukah songs, so I thought we'd try this one for you.”

In fact, the only thing he really changes about the song’s lyrics is that he adds the word “don’t” in front of “smoke your marijuanica.”

Neil Diamond’s version of the “Chanukah Song” can be heard on his forthcoming Christmas disc, A Cherry, Cherry Christmas, due out October 13 on Columbia Records.

A Cherry, Cherry Christmas:

1. “Cherry Cherry Christmas”
2. “Sleigh Ride”
3. “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”
4. “White Christmas”
5. “Christmas Dream”
6. “The Christmas Song”
7. ”Deck The Halls / We Wish You A Merry Christmas”
8. “Jingle Bell Rock”
9. “You Make It Feel Like Christmas”
10. “Winter Wonderland”
11. “Joy To The World”
12. “Amazing Grace”
13.”Meditations On A Winter Night (Instrumental)”
14. “The Chanukah Song”

"I pretty much had a meltdown," Owen Pallett admits, laughing ruefully. "This record took a lot out of me." The 30-year-old violin genius didn't name his third full-length album Heartland for nothing. It's all blood, guts, emotion, and his own money that Pallett's poured into the epic, orchestral release, a project that was four years in the making, and according to some anxious and critical fans, long overdue....
