Update: Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic Ends Political Protest, Drops out of Race
6/16/2009 By Keith Carman

Last week, we informed you how former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic was running for office. However, it would appear as if his political career has already come to an abrupt end.

As the Associated Press reports, Novoselic's main intention was to raise some awareness as to the loopholes in political candidacy, whereby candidates can pick whichever party affiliation they like. To back his statement, he ran for a county clerk position in Washington state, saying he was running under the "Grange Party" banner, even though there is no such party.

With all of the press and hoopla over the situation, Novoselic feels he's now made his point and has stepped down from running, issuing the following statement on his website:

“Let parties nominate their own candidates. My protest is over. I’ve officially withdrawn from the Wahkiakum County clerk race. The worst thing you can call me is a crusader. I’m not a crusader, I’m just trying to make a point. And I think I made it crystal clear: It’s wrong for me to drag a private association unwittingly onto the public ballot.”

Commercial potential? The Avetts have it in spades, so don't be surprised if this disc blows up big. Sitting in a Toronto coffee shop the week before the release of Little Girls' debut album, 20-year-old Josh McIntyre is a little worried. After an opening slot for crazed Israeli rockers Monotonix the previous night, the band's guitarist had his guitar amp repossessed. "He had it for a little longer than he was supposed to have it," he says dryly. A replacement needs to be wrangled before the band set out for their gig in Hamilton tonight.... Read More
