Nas Concert Turns Ugly in Newfoundland After No-Show
5/29/2009 By Brock Thiessen

It appears things got out of hand last night in Torbay, Newfoundland, when NYC rapper Nas failed to show up for his headlining performance. According to reports, an audience of 700 at Jack Byrne Arena waited for over an hour for the MC to show but upon realizing that there would be no Nas, organizers were forced to call in police after many in the crowd apparently caused an uproar.

According to CBC reporter Zach Goudie, "The crowd [was] getting out of control... By 10:30, Nas still hadn't taken the stage [after opener Kardinal Offishall performed], and it started to become obvious he wasn't coming. There was a lot of beer can throwing… and very quickly the police were called in by security.”

Only a trio of concertgoers were arrested by police on alcohol-related charges, but Nas’s no-show reportedly led to a long line of angry hip-hop fans looking for refunds.

The promoter, ODC Productions, told local radio station VOCM that Nas was indeed in Newfoundland on the night of the show but made the decision not to perform because of financial dispute between the rapper and Halifax-based LUX Entertainment.

ODC Productions told the station that the promoters don't have any plans to offer any refunds at this point. Tickets were $59.99 plus tax, or $100 for VIP.

Well, refunds or not, at least this particular no-show didn’t result in a full-on riot like the one that recently went down in Vancouver after Necro failed to perform.
