Melissa Auf der Maur To Release Mixed Media Concept Album

Canada’s Melissa Auf der Maur is gearing up to cash in on three years of hard work by way of her new mixed media concept album Out of Our Minds. The short film portion of the project, which also includes an LP, comic and website, recently scored a spot at the Sundance Film Festival and is due to debut on the big screen later this week.

According to the press release, Out of Our Minds, which was made in collaboration with filmmaker Tony Stone, takes place in three time periods, all of which are somehow connected by blood, and with the central characters being a woman (played by former Hole/Smashing Pumpkins bassist Auf der Maur) and her, um, car.

“The 28-minute film follows her in a strange ritual that climaxes in a collision between past and future, crashing through the gateway to parallel worlds in the same forest,” the release says. “A fantasy world where a Viking heart, a car crash and a bleeding forest connect. Using music rather than dialogue, the film tells a universal tale in striking optics. Borrowed from mythology, the hunt for the heart is the eternal quest envisioned in Out of Our Minds.”

There’s no word yet on when the album portion of Out of Our Minds is due to be released, but Auf der Maur did recently put out the three-song single “This Would Be Paradise,” which came out digitally and on vinyl via her MAdMMusic imprint. The single is available only through Auf der Maur’s website and can be purchased via her webshop.
