Matthew Dear Shares His Body Language
10/1/2008 By Brock Thiessen

Following in the footsteps of Junior Boys and M.A.N.D.Y., Matthew Dear is pairing up with dance label Get Physical to release the next installment in the Body Language series. On October 28, Dear’s Body Language Vol. 7 is due to drop via the Berlin label and, along with an exclusive Dear track, will sport selections from DJ Koze, I:Cube and Martinez, among several other glitched-out, beat-friendly offerings.

Besides the new release, Dear has also lined up several tour dates for this fall, and will be stopping by both Toronto and Montreal before trekking off to Europe for several stops under his own name and as Audion. Let’s hope this time around, though, Dear has learnt to keep a better eye on his hard drive.

Whimsical curmudgeon Stephin Merritt is undeniably one of the most significant artists of the past 20 years. A clever wordsmith equally devoted to Human League and Cole Porter, Merritt's nascent musical explorations produced the lo-fi, synthesized sound of the Magnetic Fields. Even then, with his intellectual interest in diverse pop and folk instrumentation and the timeless art of charming, sentimental songs, glimmers of a contemporary pop genius shone through.... Dangers' 2006 release, Anger, was a forthright blast of acrimony encapsulated in traditionally abrasive hardcore. The early 1980s were an amazing time for music lovers. Underground genres like metal, punk, synth pop, reggae and hip-hop were burbling up into the mainstream. You could hear new music via nascent music TV channels or a newly FM-licensed college radio station near you. You could buy just about anything in your local record store and if they didn't stock it, you could special order.... Read More
