R.I.P. Jerry Finn (1969 - 2008)
8/25/2008 By Brock Thiessen

Morrissey and Bad Religion producer Jerry Finn (pictured on the right) passed away Thursday (August 21) after suffering a severe brain hemorrhage in July that put him in a coma. He was 39.

Earlier this month his family made the decision to take him off life support. Via a posting on Morrissey-Solo.com, a friend wrote these words about the family’s decision:

Even though he did make snail-like improvement these past 31 days, he is not any better for words and has not had any consistency in the tests that the medical team have done for him. At this time the hemorrhage has done massive damage to his body, which will leave him severely disabled and in need of acute care for the rest of his life. We know Jerry wouldn't want to live like this in a vegetative state."

The producer started as an audio engineer in the early 1990s before moving on to producing. In his career, he produced such albums as Green Day’s Dookie, Rancid's ...And Out Come the Wolves, Blink-182's Enema of the State and Morissey's You Are the Quarry. Finn has also worked with Bad Religion, Sparta, AFI and the Offspring, among a long list of others.

At the time of Finn’s brain hemorrhage, he was producing Morrissey's upcoming Years of Refusal album, which has been postponed due to label troubles and is now set to be released on February 2, 2009.
