Sit Back and Relax with Reviews of My Sister’s Keeper, Funny People and More in Exclaim!’s DVD Round-Up
11/26/2009 By Stephen Carlick

In the hopes of answering that eternal pair of questions, we’ve gone ahead, like we do every week, and separated the “hot” from the “not,” in terms of all the latest DVD releases. You can find all our fresh reviews in the Exclaim! Recently Reviewed motion section.

First up, Cameron Diaz and talented newcomer Abigail Breslin star in My Sister’s Keeper, which succeeds at being touching and emotionally resonant thanks to some jolting realism and superb acting. Meanwhile, Judd Apatow’s latest effort, Funny People, hits shelves this week, and despite the film being the director’s most mature, character-driven work to date, it likely won’t win over his vehement detractors.

Also out and reviewed this week were Rocky: The Undisputed Collection, which collects all the Rocky films in one box set, and The Maiden Heist, which maintains blandness throughout despite a heavy-hitting cast featuring Christopher Walken, Morgan Freeman and William H. Macy.

Lastly, Michael Mann’s pinnacle achievement in Hollywood crime films, Heat, has received the Blu-Ray treatment and was released this week.

You can find more reviews, both hot and not, in the Exclaim! Recently Reviewed motion section now.

If you've ever wondered why Toronto's first wave punk scene lacks the oral histories, band biographies, and memoirs pouring out of similar scenes, Treat Me Like Dirt is for you — as evidenced by a first printing selling out a week before its release.
