Update: Motörhead Fan Busted Impersonating Lemmy
11/25/2009 By Keith Carman

At some point, every rocker has dreamt of what it would be like to live in the shoes of Motörhead’s Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister, even if only for a few moments. It seems as if one fan has taken that dream a little too far.

On November 23, we reported how Kilmister was found asleep in a Glasgow doorway and mistaken for a homeless man.

In the tale, as reported by Digital Spy, a radio station listener called in to relay his chance encounter with the rocker.

“I came to work and there was a gentleman by my basic entry door to work,” the listener told the station. “I said to him, 'You're cold and wet, would you like a cup of coffee?' I brought him down a cup of coffee. He said, 'Thank you very much' and introduced himself as Lemmy. He drank his coffee and we had a little bit of conversation about this, that and the next thing and gave me a pack of cigars. I would imagine he was just sheltering from the rain. I think there was something going on at the hotel that he didn't want to get involved in.”

However, it seems as if the man wasn't actually our beloved 65-year-old rock god. In an email, Motörhead's publicist has informed Exclaim! it was nothing but a fan impersonating him. Wow, the joke's on us, or maybe not since the story did receive global attention, meaning the incident in question wasn't perceived as being that far-fetched for Kilmister.

The deliberately lo-fi, yet earnest, split between Transit and Man Overboard sounds like the product of a bunch of friends growing up on punk and hardcore throughout the '90s.
