Island Def Jam VP Arrested for Not Twittering During Justin Bieber Riot
11/24/2009 By Josiah Hughes

Tween pop sensation Justin Bieber (yeah, we don’t really know who he is either) recently caused quite the commotion in Long Island, NY when he arrived for an autograph signing at the Roosevelt Field Mall on November 21. As the thousands-strong crowd gathered, mall security and police became concerned about the security risks. Then things started to get ugly.

As Digital Music News reports [via The Daily Swarm], the mall appearance was cancelled, as Bieber was not allowed entrance into the building for fear of everyone’s safety. The weirdest part is that police urged Island Def Jam VP James Roppo to calm the crowd by posting a message on Justin Bieber’s Twitter account. When he refused, he was arrested.

The details are a little sketchy, but now Roppo is apparently defending himself against a number of misdemeanours, along with an accusation of second-degree assault. Speaking with the Associated Press, Nassau County Police Deputy Lieutenant Kevin Smith explained their side of the story, saying, “We asked for his help in getting the crowd to go away by sending out a Twitter message… By not cooperating with us, we feel he put lives in danger and the public at risk.”

Things have calmed down considerably for Bieber since then. On November 21, he Tweeted, “Just got off ichat with my bro @seankingston saaaap.”

"I pretty much had a meltdown," Owen Pallett admits, laughing ruefully. "This record took a lot out of me." The 30-year-old violin genius didn't name his third full-length album Heartland for nothing. It's all blood, guts, emotion, and his own money that Pallett's poured into the epic, orchestral release, a project that was four years in the making, and according to some anxious and critical fans, long overdue....
