The Clipse Announce Exclusive Deal With KOCH
6/30/2008 By Josiah Hughes

Virginia rap legends the Clipse have recently proven they have the clout to do whatever they want in the music industry. First it was a groundbreaking deal with Columbia Records that allows them full ownership of their masters. (Yes, it’s sad, but in this business owning your own creation is pretty much unheard of.) More recently, the duo announced a unique side deal with KOCH Records, which will release The Clipse Present The Re-Up Gang this August.

Of the deal, the Clipse’s Pusha T says, “Everything happens for a reason. We put out the We Got it 4 Cheap series on our own for the streets and that helped keep us visible and build the Re-Up name as an entity. This time, [our manager] Tony Draper got with [KOCH General Manager] Alan Grunblatt to put together an official album with new music and let KOCH Records do what they do best. This release gives us something fresh in the marketplace to reward Re-Up fans while we continue to work on the Clipse album.”

With nine tracks of new material and three remixed tracks from We Got It 4 Cheap Vol. 3, fans will have more than enough to tie them over before their third official long player hits in the fall. Look for the Scott Storch-produced “Fast Life” single to drop this week.

"For people to trust you and believe you, they have to see you a little bit. I'm not afraid to expose myself in that way," says Sara Quin, of sibling duo Tegan and Sara. The petite brunette has just led me into the heart of the east Vancouver jam space where she and her identical twin Tegan are rehearsing for upcoming tours. The room we're in is expansive, chilly and draped in darkness aside from a single strip of light in the middle of the room; she drags a sofa under the wimpy illumination and offers it to me, taking a straight-backed chair opposite for herself. "If we were a genre film," she continues, "we'd be a documentary."... Read More
