Blur Turn Their Reunion into a Live Album Deal
6/29/2009 By Jason Schreurs

Two shows on the ongoing Blur reunion tour will be immortalized on limited edition double CDs, which will allow fans to make all the Britpop nostalgia a take-home package.

The shows going down July 2 and 3 at London’s Hyde Park will get the live album treatment, says the band’s website, with each coming as a CD deal or via MP3. The online-only releases are currently available for pre-order here, and according to the site, both shows will be “professionally mixed and mastered,” with concert pics from each being featured in the physical albums.

The band recently played their first live show in nine years as a four-piece at the East Anglian Railway Museum in Colchester, England, which is actually a railway-themed store/amusement park. The two-hour long, June 13 set was also the site of the band’s first ever show in 1988, and this time ’round included such Blur favourites as “She’s So High,” “Song 2,” “Girls and Boys,” “Badhead” and “Parklife.”

Blur headlined Glastonbury over the weekend, and recently put out the double CD best-of collection, Midlife: A Beginner’s Guide to Blur.

Chaz Bundick, or Toro y Moi, may be the last of the bunch to have his say, but he has two reasons to be excited: Causers of This is the first of two albums he's prepared for 2010 and he... Whimsical curmudgeon Stephin Merritt is undeniably one of the most significant artists of the past 20 years. A clever wordsmith equally devoted to Human League and Cole Porter, Merritt's nascent musical explorations produced the lo-fi, synthesized sound of the Magnetic Fields. Even then, with his intellectual interest in diverse pop and folk instrumentation and the timeless art of charming, sentimental songs, glimmers of a contemporary pop genius shone through....
