Update: Dirty Projectors Shows Cancelled in Toronto and Montreal Due to Car Accident, All Band Members Are Okay
6/23/2009 By Brock Thiessen

UPDATE: Dirty Projectors have now issued a statement, and everyone is okay! Here it is:

"Dirty Projectors' van flipped outside of Detroit, MI on their way up to Toronto. Although the crash was serious, we're happy to report that all members of the band have been safely discharged from the hospital. The band will be flying home to New York in the morning to regroup and rest. Unfortunately, the band will have to cancel Toronto and Montreal. Thank you for understanding and sending your well wishes."

Exclaim! has just received a disturbing bad bit of news concerning fast-rising indie stars Dirty Projectors. The band have cancelled their Toronto show tomorrow night (June 24) at Lee’s Palace because the group have been involved in what the show’s promoter calls a “pretty bad car accident.”

The promoter did not have any more details as of press time about what member has been injured in the crash or how badly.

At this point, there is no word if Thursday night’s show in Montreal will go ahead, or if any of the band’s upcoming dates will be cancelled.

Stay tuned for further updates.

The term "videogame music" is often intended as an insult, deriding electronic beatscapes as rudimentary by comparing them to the 8-bit by necessity, bleep-based soundtracks of early Atari and Nintendo games. (See: Castles, Crystal) That Super Mario's theme music remains embedded in the frontal lobes of anyone under the age of 40 proves the critical weakness of the diss ― but it's also hopelessly archaic considering how much videogame music has evolved over the years....
