Metric Move Up Fantasies Release, Plan Special Surprise For Canada
3/12/2009 By Brock Thiessen

So, it looks as if we will get to hear Metric’s Fantasies a bit earlier than we first thought. Word came today that the band are pushing up the release of their much-anticipated fourth album to April 7, from April 14, and that it will come as an iTunes exclusive on March 31 courtesy of Last Gang Records. This is mostly likely because of its recent appearance on P2P networks and file-sharing blogs.

Metric also recently revealed that Fantasies will be released as a special limited edition package, which will include bonus add-ons, such as two bonus tracks — a cover of Pink Floyd's “Nobody Home” and the acoustic version of “Gimme Sympathy” — and some free posters. You can currently pre-order that version here at the band’s website.

What’s more, according to the new press release, Metric have “something special” planned for Canada in mid-April in support of Fantasies, with details to be announced shortly. For now, we’re just going to assume it’s a number of tour dates.

Though recently implying that he's tapped out musically, Sufjan Stevens has never created something as pointedly ambitious as The BQE. Originally commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music for a 2007 performance, as a take-home release The BQE consists of an uncompromising essay ostensibly all about the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, a visually stunning film, a stirring orchestral soundtrack, a stereoscopic View-Master reel, and, in limited edition, a 40-page comic book about characters known as the Hooper Heroes.... Montreal’s no-wave, Moog-rock four-piece Duchess Says are brilliant at working with language.
