Hard Core Logo Tribute Night Announced for August 14 in Toronto
7/30/2008 By Cam Lindsay

On August 14, Exclaim!'s Sam Sutherland has organized a night honouring one of Canada's most celebrated films, Bruce McDonald's 1996 mockumentary cult favorite Hard Core Logo. Presented by JUICEBOXdotcom, the "Hard Core Logo Tribute Night" will take place at Toronto's Revue Cinema (400 Roncesvalles Ave.) and will feature a number of punk and metal singers covering songs from the movie with an all-star backing band, as well as screening McDonald's personal print, a "bucket-tons of prizes" and a Q&A with the director after the screening.

The official press release lists the bands that are participating, which include "members of the Flatliners (the youngest band ever signed to American punk institution Fat Wreck Chords), Maximum RNR (local punk 'n' roll legends), the Sinisters (classic Queen Street punks), the Wooden Sky (MTV-certified alt-country darlings), Titan (Toronto metalheads back from a lengthy European tour), Marilyn's Vitamins/Bombs Over Providence ('90s pop-punk giants), Spookey Rueben (former Exclaim! cover artist and MuchMusic mainstay), Dayglo Abortions (west-coast '80s hardcore dynamos), Drunkula (drunks), Dance Electric (Mississauga all-ages heroes) and some un-announceable but very special SPECIAL GUESTS."

In addition, there are prizes "from just about every punk rock record label in this country, offering up some rare CDs, shirts, and limited pressing vinyl in the spirit of the evening. Participating cool guys include Fat Wreck Chords, Underground Operations, Sudden Death, Black Box, Union Label Group, Dine Alone, Smallman, Atticus Clothing, Shadow Shows Films" and apparently, yours truly, Exclaim!.

No official word if star Hugh "Mr. Flashpoint" Dillon will make an appearance but he should.

Sitting in a Toronto coffee shop the week before the release of Little Girls' debut album, 20-year-old Josh McIntyre is a little worried. After an opening slot for crazed Israeli rockers Monotonix the previous night, the band's guitarist had his guitar amp repossessed. "He had it for a little longer than he was supposed to have it," he says dryly. A replacement needs to be wrangled before the band set out for their gig in Hamilton tonight.... Read More
