New Grace Jones Album Due in October
7/4/2008 By Cam Lindsay

Hold on to your hats, because the inimitable Grace Jones is finally making her return to music after a 19-year absence. The giant pop sorceress, iconic diva, mixed-media fashionista and noted "Queen of Gay Disco" just recently signed a deal with dance music connoisseurs Wall of Sound (Vitalic, Röyksopp, Soulwax) to release her tenth studio album, Hurricane, which will see a release on October 27.

Co-produced by Jones with Ivor Guest, the eight-track set will also feature contributions by long-time collaborators Sly and Robbie, Brian Eno, Wally Badarou, Tricky, Uzziah 'Sticky' Thompson, Mikey 'Mao' Chung, Barry Reynolds, John Justin, Martin Slattery, Philip Sheppard, Paulo Goude, Robert Logan, Don-E and Tony Allen, with recording engineering duties by Cameron 'Engine' Craig.

Having recorded two albums in the '90s that have yet to see a release to this day, Hurricane marks Jones's first new effort since 1989's Bulletproof Heart. Jones recently premiered some of the album when she made an appearance at Massive Attack's Meltdown concert series in London on June 19, and will headline the upcoming Secret Garden Party Festival in Huntingdon, in the UK on Saturday July 26.

Of the signing, Mark Jones, Managing Director of Wall of Sound said, "It's an absolute honour and privilege to be working with Grace. No one has inspired more people whatever race, sex, colour or creed to be who they want to be and so much more. Her new album will not only re-establish her as one of the world's most important artists but also introduce her to a new generation of music lovers."

When asked about the signing Grace, true to her legend, simply added, "Grrrrrrr."

"I pretty much had a meltdown," Owen Pallett admits, laughing ruefully. "This record took a lot out of me." The 30-year-old violin genius didn't name his third full-length album Heartland for nothing. It's all blood, guts, emotion, and his own money that Pallett's poured into the epic, orchestral release, a project that was four years in the making, and according to some anxious and critical fans, long overdue....
