Alkaline Trio Introduce Their Own Nike Kicks
6/18/2008 By Ben Conoley

Chicago goth punks Alkaline Trio have partnered with Nike to release the Heart and Sole Air Zoome Cush. But wait, the shoe comes with more than just a clever title: the shoes have custom-designed Alkaline Trio colourways and feature the band’s logo alongside the swoosh.

Vocalist Matt Skiba is excited about the partnership, saying, “We chose red and black as the main colors to reflect our Chicago roots and pay homage to the Bulls. We are huge fans. I’m also into sneakers, so seeing the swoosh and our logo on one product is unbelievable. The shoe looks amazing and provides some insight into who we are.”

In addition to the shoes, which are vegetarian-friendly, the band will also be releasing a limited edition messenger bag. The bags, which will only be sold at Jacks Retail Shop in Huntington Beach, pay homage to the band members’ humble beginnings as bike messengers.

Alkaline Trio’s decision to partner with Nike stands in stark contrast to Minor Threat’s Ian MacKaye, who decided not to allow the company to adopt his band’s image for an advertising campaign, proving that the politics of punk are complicated indeed.

This all comes in advance of Alkaline Trio will release Agony and Irony on July 1.
