Elvis Costello To Bring Spectacle To Television
4/2/2008 By Brock Thiessen

After years in audio, Elvis Costello is going visual. It was announced today that the veteran songwriter will soon have his own television series, titled Spectacle: Elvis Costello with... In conjunction with Sir Elton John's Rocket Pictures, Costello will serve as host on the new program, which hit will hit the airwaves later this year.

According to a press release, the series will fuse the best of talk and music television, providing in-depth discussion and performance with old school, big-name artists and notable newcomers. On the performance side, Spectacle will feature collaborations, acoustic and impromptu “illustrative” demonstrations of the creative process, and Costello doing some interpretations of others’ songs.

“I'm not interested in extracting some dark secret,” Costello said in the release. “I'd rather hear about a bright secret, a deep love or a curiosity that might be otherwise obscured by fame. This is a wonderful opportunity to talk in complete thoughts about music, movies, art or even vaudeville, then frame it with unique and illustrative performances."

The series will consist of 13 one-hour programs and will air on CTV in Canada, Channel 4 in the UK and the Sundance Channel in the U.S. Spectacle’s producers have also partnered with (Product)RED to raise money and awareness for the Global Fund to fights AIDS in Africa.
