Exclusive: Ohbijou Ink North American Deal with Last Gang Records
5/29/2009 By Brock Thiessen

Exclaim! can exclusively reveal that Torontonian orch-pop septet Ohbijou have singed a new deal with Last Gang Records, the label home of such acts as Metric, Crystal Castles and MSTRKRFT. The band and label will begin their partnership this summer, when Last Gang will release Ohbijou’s long-awaited sophomore album, Beacons, in North America.

For a while now, we’ve been hearing about this follow-up to 2006’s Swift Feet for Troubling Times, but the record finally has the firm North American release date of June 16 for the physical version, and June 2 for the digital. As previously reported, the record also has some label representation across the pond, and will be released via UK indie Bella Union (the Acorn, Fleet Foxes, Andrew Bird.)

In celebration, Ohbijou will hold their very own “special CD release party,” which will go down at Toronto’s Opera House on June 25. Along with this show, the group also have a few festival dates lined up for the summer, with a full Canadian tour in support of Beacons planned for the fall.

While the fall dates have yet to be announced, here’s what’s lined up so far for this summer, as well as the tracklisting for Beacons.

Beacons:

1. “Intro To Season”
2. “Wildfires”
3. “Black Ice”
4. “Cliff Jumps”
5. “Cannon March”
6. “Eloise & The Bones”
7. “Thunderlove”
8. “New Years”
9. “Make It Gold”
10. “We Lovers”
11. “Memoriam”
12. “Jailbird Blues”

Tour dates:

6/25 Toronto, ON - The Opera House (CD Release Party)
7/25-26 Guelph, ON - Hillside Festival
8/1-3 Sackville, NB - Sappyfest
8/8 1000 Islands, ON - Wolfe Island Music Festival

"I pretty much had a meltdown," Owen Pallett admits, laughing ruefully. "This record took a lot out of me." The 30-year-old violin genius didn't name his third full-length album Heartland for nothing. It's all blood, guts, emotion, and his own money that Pallett's poured into the epic, orchestral release, a project that was four years in the making, and according to some anxious and critical fans, long overdue....
