Mani Hoping To Reform Stone Roses

With Blur and the Specials set to cash in on the reunion thing, Mani has come out with news that the Stone Roses may reform.

The former Stones Roses bassist stated today (December 15) that it would be the “ideal time” for the Madchester flag-bearers to reunite in 2009, the year that will mark the 20th anniversary of the Stones Roses' self-titled debut.

Mani, who now plays in Primal Scream, said he, guitarist John Squire and drummer Reni are all on-board to get the band back together, with vocalist Ian Brown remaining the only hold-out.

“Me, John and Reni are up for doing it and Ian just needs some working on,” the Sun newspaper quotes Mani as saying. “Next year is the 20th anniversary of the first album. It’s the ideal time to do it. It’s something I would love to do before we are all fat and bald. Start the campaign.”

The Stone Roses originally broke up in 1996 after recording only two albums.

In other reunion news, Johnny Marr has again come out to quash a fresh batch of Smith reunion rumours, telling the NME: "The stories circulating about a Smiths reunion are, as usual, untrue." (Come on, like you didn’t see that one coming.)
