Frank Black Producing New Art Brut Album
12/1/2008 By Brock Thiessen

The ever-vocal Eddie Argos has let us in on the secret that Frank Black is producing Art Brut’s upcoming new album. Via Argos’s blog, the Art Brut front-man writes: "I was thinking about trying to put anybody off that asked me outright if the Pixies legend Frank Black was producing our next album by telling them that they must have misheard and in fact the legendary Pixie Geldof was. I'm glad I didn't have to stoop that low to hide our secret."

Instead, Argos humbly says, yup, Black is doing the yet-untitled follow-up to last year’s It’s a Bit Complicated, adding that the band have about 20 songs ready for the the man also known as Charles Thompson IV and Black Francis, such as "Alcoholics Unanimous," "Summer Job," "Art Brut Versus Satan," "Rebellious Henchman," "Moved to L.A." and "D.C. Comics and Chocolate Milkshake.”

However, Argos didn’t tell us when we could expect to hear the new record or which label would be releasing it. As previously reported, Art Brut earlier this year split from their former home of EMI and became the “best unsigned band in Britain.”

In related Brut news, Argos’s side-project Glam Chops released their free Christmas single today. To download the double A-side “Countdown to Christmas”/”Baby Jesus Was the First Glam Rocker,” you can go here.

It's unfortunate the words "maturity" and "growth" are stigmas in the world of punk rock. They would be the perfect descriptors for Toronto, ON-based Hostage Life's tertiary release.
