Converse Release Sneakers Designed by Green Day Front-man

In an age where it’s more likely for fans to buy sneakers than CDs, it only makes sense that shoe companies would be partnering with rock stars for some good old cross promotion. Enter Converse, which has already tapped Nirvana and the Ramones for some signature shoes in their Project (RED) campaign, not to mention “Three Artists One Song,” which matched up Santogold, the Strokes’ Julian Casablancas, and Pharrell Williams, among others, to rock some Chucks. Now, the legendary shoe brand has hooked up with Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong for some signature kicks.

Sleek and subtle, Armstrong’s Chuck Taylors are fairly plain-looking black low-tops with red highlights reminiscent of Green Day’s American Idiot art. The shoes are made from hemp and leather, and ten percent of the hefty $69.99 USD price will benefit The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
