CBC Radio 3 Announces Shortlist for Canada's Best Record Store
4/3/2008 By Cam Lindsay

As previously reported, CBC Radio 3 is currently searching for Canada's Best Record Store in a competition they're calling Searchlight. Last week the station announced the list of 47 nominees who were chosen by Canadian record buyers and now Radio 3 has narrowed them down to a shortlist of 20.

“I'm really surprised and impressed to see some of the smaller stores in smaller towns not only keep up but surpass some of the bigger stores in the cities,” commented CBC Radio 3 host Grant Lawrence. “One of the immediate complaints that we received when we launched Searchlight was that the big city stores would have a population advantage but as the top twenty indicates, that's clearly not the case.”

You can now vote on the top 20 list, which will continue until next Wednesday when the list will be pared down to ten, and announced on CBC Radio 3 at 12 p.m. PST/3 p.m. EST. The following week, voters will choose from the final five and on April 18 – the day before Record Store Day – the Searchlight winner will be announced.
